October is National Pizza Month, which around here is less a holiday and more a permission slip. We've got six pizza night favorites lined up — a couple of starters to keep everyone patient while the oven heats, a deep dish and a thin crust so the room stays divided, a lighter bowl version for the one person watching carbs, and a dessert that isn't really pizza but absolutely earns its spot on the table. Order nothing tonight. The Starter Nobody Can Stop EatingLittle Caesars Crazy Puffs — Pillowy dough pockets stuffed with mozzarella and pepperoni, brushed with garlic butter, and dunked in marinara. They showed up on the menu almost by accident and turned into the thing people specifically drive there for. Make a double batch — they disappear before the actual pizza comes out of the oven. 🥖 The Breadsticks That Started the Whole CravingPizza Hut Cheese Sticks — Buttery, garlicky breadsticks under a blanket of melted cheese, cut into strips for dunking. This is the appetizer that makes everyone stop talking for a minute. Get the marinara warm and set it right next to the pan — cold dip is the only way to ruin these. 🌶️ The One That Converts Everybody at the TableDomino's Buffalo Chicken Pizza — Grilled chicken tossed in buffalo sauce over a ranch base, with mozzarella and provolone pulling it all together. It's got real heat without tipping into "too spicy for the kids" territory, and the ranch base keeps it from drying out the way a straight buffalo pie can. This is the pizza people ask for by name. Speaking of requests — if there's a chain's pizza you're dying to see cracked next, the CopyKat Community is exactly where that gets decided. Drop the name and vote on what I tackle after this one; National Pizza Month is the perfect excuse to work through the whole list. 🍕 The Deep Dish Worth the Fork and KnifePizzeria Uno's Deep Dish Pizza — Thick, buttery crust built up the sides of the pan, then layered with cheese first and chunky tomato sauce on top, the way real Chicago deep dish is supposed to go together. This one takes a bit more time than the others, but it's the pizza that makes people say "wait, you made this?" Build it a day ahead through the layering step and bake it fresh. 🥗 The One for the Carb-Conscious Seat at the TableCrustless Pizza Bowls — All the pepperoni, sauce, and melted cheese of a loaded pizza, baked in a dish with no crust to fill up on. It sounds like a compromise and eats like the real thing, which is exactly why it earns a spot next to the deep dish instead of off to the side. Great for using up whatever pizza toppings are left in the fridge. 🍩 The Dessert That Isn't Really PizzaPizza Hut Cinnamon Sticks — Buttery breadsticks baked golden, dusted heavily in cinnamon sugar, and served with a sweet white icing for dunking. They ride in on the same tray logic as the cheese sticks, just dessert instead of dinner. This is how pizza night ends instead of just stops. 🍕 In the Kitchen for Pizza NightA good pizza night lives or dies by the setup almost as much as the recipes. 🔪 OXO Lasagna Spatula — Deep dish does not come out of the pan cleanly with a regular spatula, and this one's wide, angled edge gets under a full slice without leaving half the cheese behind. It earns its keep on lasagna and casseroles the rest of the month too. 🍲 9x13 Baking Dish with Lid — This is exactly the size the pizza bowls want, and the lid means leftovers go straight from oven to refrigerator with no foil-wrestling. Genuinely one of the most-reached-for dishes in my kitchen. 🥣 Mini Prep Bowls — Set out extra pepperoni, banana peppers, parmesan, and crushed red pepper so everyone can dress their own slice at the table. It turns one pizza night into everybody's personal pizza night for the cost of a few small bowls. Happy National Pizza Month 🍕Six ways to make pizza night better than delivery, and not one of them requires a tip or a thirty-minute wait. Start the puffs and breadsticks while the deep dish is in the oven, and let the cinnamon sticks be the thing everyone "saves room" for and then eats immediately anyway. Enjoy the month — I plan to. |
